Spirit Led: Everyday Encounters with the God of the Universe

Galatians 5:25 says:

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

How does one walk by the spirit? How can we apply that to our everyday life?

It’s simple, all you need to do is practice hearing the Father’s voice. It sounds difficult but it really isn’t. We need faith, faith is the base of our whole relationship with God. We need to believe that He is real, that He sent His son Jesus to die for our sin so that we could have a relationship with Him forever. When Jesus ascended back to Heaven, He sent the Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us among other things.

I like the way Graham Cooke explains old testament and new testament Holy Spirit. Before Jesus came down to take our sin upon Himself, we lived in a visitation culture. The Holy Spirit would visit the Lord’s elect. After Jesus ascended into Heaven, it changed from visitation to habitation with the Holy Spirit.

He dwells within us, He never leaves. Since He is within us, hearing Him is as natural as our own thoughts. I often get asked how I know if a word is from the Lord or from myself. It’s hard to put into words, but usually, the word or thought comes out of nowhere. It’s something I know or have experienced.

Since the Holy Spirit is within me, He knows what I’ve read, watched, seen or heard. He was there with me when it all happened. So often times He’ll speak to me using those things.

Here’s an example:

I am going about my daily business when all of sudden a friend comes into my thought space. I have learned that when that happens it’s the Lord using me to reach out to that person. So what I do is I usually send that person a text, something I feel like the Lord is highlighting for encouragement.

How often have you contacted someone you love at the exact moment where they needed your friendship? How often have you heard of something that you just learned about? I believe that is the Holy Spirit using your experiences to guide you and communicate with you.

So I challenge you today to practice listening to the Holy Spirit. Remember that God is love, that’s all He knows how to do. The words He gives you will always be encouraging and full of grace, mercy, and love.

Ask the Lord:

How do you feel about me?

What do you want to say to me today?

What can I learn from/about You today?

Invite the lover of your soul to open your ears today. Let him tune you into His frequency over you. He is faithful to turn His ear toward you when you speak to Him. He is longing to lavish His love upon you today, and every day. Are you ready to receive?

I hope this helps you in your journey of learning how to be led by the Spirit.

With Love,

Your Friend Jenn
